Australia is one of the lead donor countries to relate the key principles of capacity development to its development co-operation. It has advanced on several fronts in reforming its approach to capacity development - especially in terms of technical assistance - and in dedicating its own organizational capacity to the issue. Nevertheless, significant challenges remain in terms of integrating capacity development into its field level operations, in ensuring the sustainability of such effort and in keeping it a priority.

This four-page issues brief is one of a series from OECD DAC examining challenges and discussions in the field of capacity development.
