Strengthening local capacity for climate change adaptation: The AdaptCap project in India

Water filtration systems, coastal bunds and other technologies that are tailored to the conditions and needs of local communities can help reduce vulnerability to climate change impacts like increased saltwater intrusion caused by sea level rise or storm surges, or more frequent and severe drought. A key challenge, however, is ensuring such technologies are properly operated and maintained. The partners of the AdaptCap project, a European Commission-financed initiative implemented with coastal communities in the South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, have developed a multi-pronged approach for enabling communities to operate and maintain their technical adaptation projects.
